Two young children were reportedly saved from their mother by their 18-year-old brother after she tried to drown them. Sonya Gardner went on a crazed fit after smoking a marijuana cigarette believed to have been laced with PCP.
Gardner, 35, was a known loving single mother of four doing her best to raise her children. She had no arrests, except one 14 years ago for marijuana possession, and hadn’t been involved with Child Protective Services – until now.
After allegedly smoking a joint, friends of Gardner explain that she knew something was off and took a trip to the local Emergency Room. When she was turned away after several hours claiming the hospital was too busy, she returned home and did the unspeakable.
The high woman went into her bathroom, filled her bathtub and retrieved two of her children, ages 6 and 4. When the two girls began to cry for help, their 18-year-old brother, Jydesmon Gardner, came to the rescue, gun in hand.
Jydesmon shot a round into the air before quickly kicking down the door and rescuing the two girls. He then handed them off to neighbors before making his escape as he currently has outstanding warrants.
The 6-year-old girl later told police, “We were fixing to die,” as their mother was aiming to, “drown us in the bath.” Their mother has since been arrested and charged with attempted capital murder of a child where she is being held on $1 million bond.
