They say you should never judge another person until you have walked in their shoes, and not many people have walked in Bonnie’s shoes. She weighed over 650 pounds at her heaviest and was housebound because of her weight for an excruciating 7 years.
Now, the Los Angeles mom is doing a bit better, as she has been able to see the outside world after all that time. To accomplish that task, construction workers cut a hole through her bedroom wall so that she could get out of the home.
For 5 of the 7 years for which Bonnie was housebound, she could not even make it out of her own bed. Now, she has lost 75 pounds in the hospital. She can stand on her own again and doctors predict that she will be able to walk in another month.

This whole ordeal began when Bonnie’s mother passed away in 2007. Stricken with grief, she could not bring herself to leave the solitude of her home. Then her father died two years later and things got exponentially worse. Eventually, Bonnie’s only means for survival was her 24-year-old daughter, Jamesha, who became her full-time caretaker.
Enter Iyanla Vanzant, TV life coach from Oprah’s OWN channel. She convinced Bonnie to leave her home and begin the process of getting her life back on a recent episode of the TV intervention show Iyanla: Fix My Life.
The moment that Bonnie was carried outside on a stretcher was emotional. She was met by a crowd of supportive friends and family outside of her house before she was driven off in a medical vehicle to the hospital.
What do you think of Bonnie’s story? She certainly has her work cut out for her. Sound off in the comments section!
