South Carolina Rep. Trey Gowdy has received threatening emails in the wake of being placed at the head of the Select Committee to investigate the September 11, 2012 attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya. Now the U.S. Capitol Police have launched an investigation into who sent them and where they came from.
Capitol Police wouldn’t comment on the scope of the investigation that stemmed from two emails were sent to various journalists at different media outlets on Tuesday that warned Gowdy would be harmed due to his role in the Benghazi investigation.
Officer Shennell Antrobus did however confirm that there is “an active, open investigation.”
Gowdy wouldn’t comment on the matter and his office referred all questions to Capitol Police.
All threats against members of Congress are investigated by Capitol Police, however they pay especially close attention to death threats, even those that don’t seem credible, ever since Rep. Gabby Giffords had an attempt on her life in 2011.
This isn’t the first time that Gowdy has been threatened, in 2012 he was approached in his vehicle by a woman with a gun while he was in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
There’s no other information regarding the threats at this time.
This really isn’t surprising, considering all the left has are threats, intimidation, and bullying in order to make their points. You had best believe that if this were a conservative threatening a liberal lawmaker that the story would be plastered all over the news.
