In today’s society even parents are losing the rights as to what they are able to control in regards to their own children. Proving just that, a man was recently arrested after speaking out at a school board meeting after discovering that his daughter had been assigned a book with a pornographic scene in it.

William Baer describes that the Gilford school in new Hampshire assigned his ninth grade daughter the book “Nineteen Minutes” by Jodi Picoult which has a scene that depicts a graphic sex scene between two teenagers.

The book is overall about a school shooting and is meant to help students better understand the reality surrounding such an instance but parents are in an outrage nonetheless. Parents were entirely unaware of the scene until, that is, their children brought it to their attention.

Baer conveyed to local news, “I was shocked when I read the passage and not much shocks me anymore.” Furthermore he added, “My wife was stunned by the increasingly graphic nature of the sexual content of the scene and the imagery it evoked.”

He, along with several other parents, went to the school board meeting where he voiced his concerns and left little doubt in board members minds at just how upset he was. “It’s absurd,” he shouted.

One board member was heard saying, “Sir, would you please be respectful of the other people?” To which he replied, “Like you’re respectful of my daughter, right? And my children?”

A police officer was soon on the scene where he attempted to escort Baer from the premises, but he was a little less than compliant. He told the officer, “You are going to arrest me because I violated the two-minute rule? I guess you are going to have to arrest me.”

Just seconds later the officer did just that, physically grabbing onto Mr. Baer and removed him from the area where he was handcuffed outside. His wife then had a chance with the local media where she conveyed, “I fully understand how he feels. It really is a huge violation.”

She then added, “Why should those ideas be put in their mind? They can discuss this some other way. They don’t need that kind of imagery.”

Apparently the school district usually issued permission slips to parents where they can either provide or deny their consent of their children reading the book. This time, however, they shrugged their shoulders as they explained they forgot.

As if that excuse would do anyone not in a position of authority any good, Baer later voiced, “Many people in education and government truly believe our children are theirs.” He went on to say, “that parents are only the custodians who feed them and put a roof over their head. These school incidents are a byproduct of this ‘we know best’ philosophy. They believe they have the authority to do this. If people were more complacent, which is hard to imagine, it’d be even worse.”
