Last month a group of wayward thugs beat Steve Utash to within inches of his life after he accidentally struck a 10-year-old black kid who ran out in front of his truck, and now the trial date has been set for four of the people responsible.
Wonzey Saffold, 30, and Latrez Cummings, 19, will stand trial on August 18 of this year, and James Davis. 24, and Bruce Wimbush Jr. will have their cases tried starting August 25. All four men have been charged with assault with intent to murder for the attack which happened April 2 of this year.
Utash is a white guy from Macomb County who remains in the hospital after being brutally beaten by a group of people. He struck a 10-year-old boy who stepped out into a busy Detroit street and when he stopped he was pulled from his vehicle and attacked.
After an investigation the police determined that the attack was racially motivated.
According to reports from the courtroom, Judge James Callahan of the Wayne County Circuit Court had to warn the 40 or so supporters of the defendants that they would be fined if they spoke out, since they had previously been unruly. Reports also stated that extra security was required in order to keep spectators calm and ensure a secure environment.
The four defendants are being held without bond until their court date.
Utash is a part of a growing trend of white people being targeted for only being white. This type of thing keeps happening and not getting reported, yet people are being brutally beaten and in some cases even killed when they’ve done nothing wrong at all.
