The “world’s fattest woman,” weighing in at a whopping 765 pounds, has recently vowed to drop her weight so that she’s able to walk down the aisle for her wedding, and “dance all night.”
The almost immobile woman, Charity Pierce, however, seems to have run into a few obstacles along the way as she’s a single mother on disability. She is currently seeking to get the gastric band surgically implanted, but local doctors won’t do that until she is under 600 pounds.
Luckily for her, she was able to locate a doctor in Texas that is willing to complete the surgery for her, but that doctor is a far shot away from her home in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Pierce, at some point, had developed what is known as lymphedema – a condition that causes major swelling.
As by the pictures, it can be seen that a large area in which swelling has occurred is in Pierce’s left leg. This swelling makes it nearly impossible for her to get in cars and travel anywhere leaving her only chance of getting to Texas, being by hiring a private ambulance to take her there.
Unfortunately, the ride has been quoted somewhere around $5,000. Pierce has since taken to begging the public for help through the use of the website, gofundme. Pierce still has a few thousand dollars to raise, but her determination seems to be paying off as donations are steadily coming in.
The 38-year-old woman has been put on the short list for TLC‘s My 600lb Life – a show that follows around people larger than 600 lbs after surgery to document their progress. Of course, the doctor agreed to do the surgery, but only if she is able to get to Texas by the end of April.
As that time is speedily approaching, she is urging the public to donate now more than ever as, “A doctor in Texas willing to do patients over 600lb [is] my only hope.” She went on to add, “The one thing that’s going to save my life is gastric bypass. But I’m a single mother on disability with no one to count on besides myself.”
Pierce explains that she wishes to watch her daughter grow up and graduate as well as have the wedding of her dreams with her 22-year-old boyfriend, Tony Sauer. She recent explained to Bestmagazine, “I’m determined not to have to get married at home. I want to be able to walk up the aisle.”
Conveying her dreams even further, she went on to note, “I plan to wear a wedding dress, cowboy boots and a cowgirl hat … I want to dance all night.”
Without the band however, Pierce doesn’t think this is a reality as she has been fighting her problems for quite some time. At this point, she is maintaining a 1,200 calorie-a-day diet and has physical therapy twice a day.
“I’m not going to make it if I don’t have a gastric bypass,” she says.
Pierce mentions that she’s always been on the heavier side, but after falling down a set of stairs and developing lymphedema, she explains that it’s been exponentially more difficult. “The lymphedema feels like another whole person. It feels like cinder blocks hanging off you all the time,” she states.
After all this, she even had to fight off a bout of Necrotizing Facitis, aflesh eating bacteria. Because of the condition she relays, “They had to cut out 40lb of dead muscle and tissue. My left side looks as though a shark took a big bite out of it.”
Despite all this however, Pierce remains hopeful that things will end up going as planned as she expressed, “It’s a very long road, but I’m going to get there.”
