Reports of the government buying up unprecedented amounts of ammunition have many in the conservative community rightfully concerned. Now there is even more cause to worry, as yet another government agency has been caught up in the frenzy to acquire seemingly ridiculous amounts of ammunition.
Earlier this year, the USPS notified the public of their intent to purchase ammunition via a posting on their website titled “Assorted Small Arms Ammunition”. It read:
“The United States Postal Service intends to solicit proposals for assorted small arms ammunition. If your organization wishes to participate, you must pre-register. This message is only a notification of our intent to solicit proposals.”
Alan Gottlieb, chairman of the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms, has said of this new report:
“We’re seeing a highly unusual amount of ammunition being bought by the federal agencies over a fairly short period of time. To be honest, I don’t understand why the federal government is buying so much at this time.”
It certainly is peculiar, to say the least. We’re trillions of dollars in debt and the government is on a spending spree to arm themselves while they continue their assault on the little man’s Second Amendment rights. Cause for concern? You betcha!

Speculation as to why the government is arming itself to the hilt is the topic of conversation in many conservative circles. Many believe that the tyrannical Obama Administration is planning a full-fledged assault on the American people. This could also very well be another way for the gun-grabbers to get at our weapons by scooping them up first and leaving none left over.
Here is a list of other government agencies which have requested ammunition in alarming quantities:
- The Social Security Administration put in a request for 174,000 rounds of .357 Sig 125 grain bonded jacketed hollow-point bullets.
- The Department of Agriculture requested 320,000 rounds.
- The Department of Homeland Security requested 450 million rounds.
- The FBI sought 100 million rounds.
- The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration also requested 46,000 rounds.
Wondering why NOAA needs that much ammo? So are we. Are we going to war with the jellyfish now?
Erich Pratt, Communications Director for Gun Owners of America, said:
“We realize that the House is still investigating the ammo purchases by the administration, but from what we’ve seen so far, most representatives don’t seem alarmed. For example, [Georgia Republican] Rep. Lynn Westmoreland said that given all the agencies that the Department of Homeland Security purchases for, 450 million rounds really is not that large of an order.”
While the government tries to downplay their obvious hoarding of ammunition, there is a more deeply rooted issue at hand. Our Founding Fathers never intended for our country to be a police state. In fact, quite the opposite. They set us up as a land of free people who are individually armed and therefore able to protect ourselves from a tyrannical government. The government does not need to protect itself from a tyrannical people. If you stayed awake during your fourth grade history lessons, you know why our fore fathers felt so strongly about this.
There may soon come a time when we the people must take up our arms to defend our constitution, our freedom, and our way of life – just like the people who founded this nation had to do. Make sure you purchase all the ammo you can get your hands on now, before it’s too late.
