A legislator from Illinois started quite a bit of controversy when she referred to a half-black colleague as a “half” on the floor of the Assembly.
Rep. Linda Chapa LaVia made the statement about Republican John Anthony while discussing charter school reforms. Just prior to making the racist remark, she made sure to note that nearly every minority in the room was on the Democratic side, which is yet another insulting suggestion.
The half-witted politician apologized for her remarks, then retracted the apology.
According to the Illinois Mirror, she started out saying “Listen to me minorities, I’m over here because we’re all over on this side, right?”
The republicans in the room objected to her assertion, she then said “wait, we have a half. We have a half.”
By most standards of interpretation, it would be logical to assume that she was calling out the half-black Republican on that side of the room, as if to correct herself.
Shortly after, one of her Republican colleagues called her out for her off colored remarks and she apologized, saying it wasn’t her intentions to offend anyone.
Later on in a statement to The Beacon-News she claimed that her comments were taken out of context, and that she was asking Republicans to allow her to address the Democrat side of the room.
“The comments were taken out of context. It’s extremely frustrating,” she said.
Watch the video above and see what you think. There doesn’t seem to be any question as to what she meant, but then again Democrats seem to have a habit of refuting video evidence of what they really said, like nobody will notice.
