A recent Ireland wedding was graced with a performance a little unorthodox for the Catholic church. During the proceedings of the ceremony, the Father halted the nuptials to belt out an amazing rendition of “Hallelujah.”
Father Ray Kelly recently surprised a bride and groom, Leah and Chris O’Kane, amidst their wedding ceremony with quite the show-stopping performance. After uploading it just three days ago, the jaw-dropping video has already received almost 5 million views.
The vocal performance was apparently unplanned as the Father had suddenly stopped during the wedding and announced that he had a little surprise for the bride and groom. As everyone was in a bit of shock, to say the least, you can imagine their surprise when Kelly began belting out Leonard Cohen’s ‘Hallelujah’.
Starting of his rendition similar to a parody, he began by singing, “We join together here today, to help two people on their way, as Leah and Chris start their life together.” With the help of some of Leah’s bridesmaids Kelley pulled off the song perfectly hitting every note.
Several members of the congregation were seen wiping away their tears of joy as they listened in on the beautiful surprise. Adding to his performance, Kelly even locked eyes with the bride and groom and raised his eyebrows prompting them to erupt in laughter.
After finishing the amazing version of the song, the congregation was heard breaking out in applause while many in the crowd gave the father a standing ovation.
Father Kelly has been the Priest of Oldcastle, north-west of Dublin since 2006 and has performed in The All Priests Show in Dublin and even in America. He is currently thinking about releasing a charity album as well.
