Banker Leaves Lavish Life To Make World A Better Place

Adam Braun had it all – a booming career on Wall Street, money and success, but he decided to leave it all behind one day after a run-in with a little boy. While on a backpacking trip through the developing world, Adam came across a child living on the streets in India. He thought to ask him if he could have anything in the world, what would it be? Now, you may imagine that the little boy’s answer would have been a car or a house, but it was nowhere even close to those things. He answered Adam with something shockingly simple – a pencil.

To someone from the U.S., it is hard to imagine wishing for the opportunity to own a pencil. When we want or need something that small, we just go grab it from our arsenal of things. But to this little boy, the idea of owning his own pencil was just a dream. Really puts things into perspective, doesn’t it?

This chance encounter prompted Adam to start his charity, Pencils of Promise. He started the organization with just $25 and now it funds over 200 schools in impoverished counties. To date, more than 20,000 children have been educated at a Pencils of Promise facility.

It is truly inspiring that Adam was able to do so much after starting out with so little. His selfless spirit is also quite an inspiration. Let us know what you think of this remarkable young man and his charity in the comments section below!
