Lindsey Villatoro is a photographer from Menifee, CA who’s specialty is capturing precious moments on camera for those who suffer from terminal diseases. When she went above and beyond for one client in particular, the story went viral.
Jim Zetz is a 62-year-old man dying of terminal pancreatic cancer. Villatoro was called on to do a photo shoot for him during the last phases of his life, and that’s when she learned that he has a precious 11-year-old daughter named Josie. The gravity of this family’s situation hit the caring photographer like a ton of bricks and she decided to do something incredibly special for the little girl.
As a surprise, Villatoro put together an elaborate wedding for Josie, even though she’s much too young to marry. The purpose was so that she would always have the memories and photographs of her father walking her down the aisle – even though he will not make it to the see the day of her actual wedding.
Villatoro said of the experience creating Josie’s mock wedding:
“I met Josie [the day of the wedding]. She was a little bit overwhelmed when her mom picked her up from school and told her. She just needed a moment. Later, she said, ‘This is the best day of my life.’ She was very glad and excited to have these moments. There is going to come a day very soon when he’s not here. So for everyone to see those moments inside their family and connect with them is a really big thing for them. They feel very blessed … The goal when I do these things is to preserve that person. Most people focus on the death and not the beauty of that person, who they were and the memories that they leave.”
It’s hard to watch the video from the day Jim walked his daughter down the aisle without crying. It was certainly an incredibly beautiful moment that all who witnessed will remember forever.
