A school security officer was pleased to hear that she wasn’t going to spend any time in jail after having sex with a 15-year-old boy. Having had her sentence suspended, the judge did demand that the woman had to attend counseling as well as stay away from the boy and his family.
It all started last year when Patience Perez, 24, entered into a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old student that attended the Virginia Beach Renaissance Academy, where she worked. From there, the two were reported to have sex in each other’s houses several times, both in Virginia Beach and Norfolk, as well as exchanged graphic text messages.
Along the way, Perez and the boy even exchanged Facebook messages detailing a plot to kill Perez’s “abusive” husband, but those charges were later dropped. The two were discovered when the boy’s mother found pictures of the naked school employee on her son’s phone.
The mother states that she went to the school and demanded to know who the child was, as she thought it was a fellow student of her son’s at the time. One can only imagine the shock she felt to learn that it was an adult employee who worked for the school district.
Shortly after Perez had been arrested, the boy’s mother relayed to the media that she, “preyed on my baby.” She added, “She took advantage of teenage boy that had depression issues, anger issues.”
Since the relationship was ended back in March of last year, Perez has been wrapped up in her court case in which she faced prosecution. Facing up to four years in jail, the Norfolk judge had decided that the woman would only have to face 7 months in jail. He added that the time would only have to be served if she did not follow through with his demands of counseling and suspended her sentence for a year.
Although Perez is facing no jail time if she remains compliant with the judge’s directions, she is still required to register as a sex offender and has been mandated to stay away from the boy and his family. That being said, the victim’s mother isn’t too happy.
Relaying her frustration to the media, she stated, “We haven’t wrapped our brain around it.” She went on to say, “It doesn’t make sense. It’s like we endured all this pain all this stress and for this to happen. Just like an arrow to the heart.”
The boy’s mother however remains hopeful that Perez will face more severe consequences in Virginia Beach, where she is also being charged after having sex with the boy in that jurisdiction as well. She openly stated, “I hope that that prosecutor cares more about my family than Norfolk did.”
Despite the accusations that Perez was plotting to kill her husband, she was later seen leaving the courthouse hand-in-hand with him.
