One Ohio man has been given a new lease on life after surviving what could have been a fatal attack by gang members. Rick Wagoner, a 49-year-old bus driver, was standing outside of his bus on Monday morning, when he was approached by three gang members. Wagoner heard one of the men say, “We need to shoot a polar bear to get in a club”, and was then shot once in the leg and twice in the chest. “Polar bear hunting” is gang slang for an attack on an unsuspecting victim.

Miraculously, the bullets fired at point-blank range into Wagoner’s chest were stopped by a small bible that the man kept in his breast pocket. Police found the bullets lodged in the copy of the New Testament, but they never penetrated Wagoner’s skin. Even law enforcement is attributing the outcome of this incident to divine intervention, saying that Wagoner never should have survived the three shots fired at him.
The attackers were described as three young black males. Wagoner was able to fend them off by stabbing one of them with a pen he grabbed from his pocket. He is now in completely stable condition and expected to make a full recovery.
