Gary James is a local business owner in Enid, Oklahoma who’s currently running for city council. He’s recently been thrown in the spotlight due to some shocking statements he made in a recent interview where he admitted to openly discriminating against basically everybody.
He owns a bar called the Chicaro Club that’s been open for four decades and apparently has a reputation for not being the most welcoming place.
He openly admits that he discriminates against people he doesn’t like, and said that after 44 years of being in business he can spot them easily.
“If you come in here with all the in your face and a limp wrist, no I don’t really want you in here and my customers damn sure don’t want you in here,” he said of his potential patrons and added that he refuses to serve anybody who he feels would make him or his customers uneasy.
His political aspirations come from his desire to rid the town of “people on welfare” and “trash.” He said that “I don’t deal with these people walking down the street with no jobs on welfare.”
A recent flurry of Facebook comments have accused him of discriminating against black people, homosexuals, and handicapped people. One of those people is Matt Gard, who’s permanently disabled from the waist down and in a wheel chair.
Gard used to be a regular at the restaurant and claims that James doesn’t like certain people of race, color, and ethnicity. “Now, he tried to find a weak excuse not to let me in with my wheelchair or the weak excuse of having loud people with me.” Gard’s comment came after he was refused service one night.
James says that it wasn’t because of the wheelchair he wasn’t served, but because he had created an issue in a prior visit. “You only have one time here. You create an issue, you’re out forever,” he said.
James also has strong feelings against homosexuals and he doesn’t hide it, “I really don’t want gays around. Any man that would compromise his own body would compromise anything.”
He spoke more about his criteria for who he will and won’t serve “Well if you work, you own a business, pay your taxes, you’re more than welcome here. If you’re on welfare, stay at home and spend my money, there.”
The shirt for his restaurant is as colorful as his comments and has anti-gay slurs on it, the “N-word” on the front, and it threatens violence against Muslims, minorities, and democrat voters on the back.
“If I reached over there and slapped the sh** out of you, you should be offended. But to call someone a ‘chink’ or someone call me a bigot, that doesn’t bother me,” James said.
