Things got a little intense for a reporter who was speaking to a congressman after Obama’s State of the Union. After talking about the matter at hand—the State of the Union—the reporter tried to bring up the recent allegations of the congressman’s illegal activity. After storming off camera, the congressman returned to threaten the reporter that he would throw him, “off this f**king balcony,” and break him in two.
Michael Scotto of NY1 went to the capital yesterday where he intended to get some feedback from attending politicians. He managed to get a hold of Rep. Michael Grimm where the two discussed what the President had to say during the State of the Union address.
Scotto then attempted to change the direction of the conversation to the recent allegations against Grimm saying he accepted illegal amounts of donation money during his campaign. Before Scotto could get out half his question however, Grimm stated, “I’m not speaking to you off-topic, this is only about the President.”
He then marched off camera and Scotto spoke directly to the camera saying that, “Congressman Michael Grimm does not want to talk about some of the allegations concerning his campaign finances.” In true deer-in-the-headlights fashion, Scotto’s attention shockingly turned to the right—his left–when he timidly backed up.
Back on camera, Grimm is seen charging the reporter with a few threatening words. Too bad for Grimm, Scotto still had a live mic on recording the incident despite his apparent attempts to lower his voice to an otherwise inaudible level.
Jaw clenched, talking through his teeth, Grimm conveyed, “Let me be clear to you, you ever do that to me again I’ll throw you off this f***ing balcony.” Scotto of course, trying to defend his right to investigate explains, “It was a valid question.”
Grimm then continues his intimidation with a few more inaudible sentences before mentioning, “No, no, you’re not man enough, you’re not man enough. I’ll break you in half. Like a boy.”
After the incident Grimm explained his frustration saying, “The reporter knew that I was in a hurry and was only there to comment on the State of the Union, but insisted on taking a disrespectful and cheap shot at the end of the interview, because I did not have time to speak off-topic.”
He has since apologized to the reporter who has accepted his apology.
It seems as if this isn’t Grimm’s first attempt at intimidation as about 10 years ago the ex-marine, and then FBI agent, threatened a man in a bar with his gun. Apparently the victim explained that Grimm stated he, “don’t know who he’s f***ing with…I’ll f***in’ make him disappear where nobody will find him.”
Of course Grimm denies this but explains it with an even more eerie comment when he stated, “I don’t need to speak that way. A guy with a gun who knows how to use it doesn’t need to say anything.”
