Companies are often looking for ways to stir the pot and get our attention through marketing. Whether it be with outrageous ads depicting the impossible or controversial ads designed to cause debate, their tactics are designed to do one thing and one thing only, get our attention.

That’s exactly what the company SnoreStop has done with their recent ad campaign. They’ve been placing billlboards across the country that shows a US soldier in his military camo married to a Muslim woman who has her face covered in a traditional Muslim fashion, something that will surely cause an uproar across the country.

The company claims to want to show couples that we “don’t normally see in advertising” so that their product stands out, well mission accomplished. Not only do you not see couples that look like this, but you’ll very rarely, if ever see a Muslim woman that’s living in America and married to a soldier wearing anything like that to cover her face. Such is usually not done by “Americanized” Muslim women, especially if they’re married to a non-Muslim man in our military.

Although the company spokeswoman Melody Devemark disagrees, saying “People feel that we are trying to misuse the image of military servicemen. I think they don’t understand that there are couples like this that do exist.”

As you can imagine, liberals who have seen the ad are ecstatic, and the Council on American-Islamic Relations(CAIR) praised it as “excellent” and “cool”.

The billboards are already in place in Los Angeles and Chicago, and more are slated to go up in San Diego, Houston, Salt Lake City and Times Square, amongst other places.

Many Americans are rightfully outraged however, and feel that it’s an unrealistic depiction of an American-Muslim relationship and that it was done simply for the shock value, to which I would agree. I understand the value of hard hitting advertising but at some point there has to be a line drawn. Had this been a conservative company with an unrealistic depiction of a homosexual couple the outrage would be heard in Russia.

Sound off in the comments, how do you feel about it?
