It’s not often we hear of a liberal member of the media call for Obama’s impeachment, but that’s exactly what happened recently when well known Nat Hentoff sounded off about the President.
For 51 years Hentoff was a columnist for “The Village Voice”, a liberal tabloid-style periodical that’s produced in New York City. He’s known as an authority on the Bill of Rights and his expertise in Supreme Court cases, and often regarded as the “conscious” of liberalism, although he left his job at the newspaper when a story he was doing on abortion caused him to have disagreements with his colleagues. In other words, he knows what he’s talking about when it comes to these matters.
The thing is, Hentoff hasn’t like Obama from the start. Shortly after Obama’s election he wrote a column that warned us of the impending damage Obama is going to do to the nation, saying Obama “was going to be the most destructive, dangerous president we’ve ever had,” eventhough his friends and colleagues suggested he should stop being negative and give Obama a chance prior to being so critical of him.
Hentoff says he’s given Obama the chance and it still hasn’t changed his views, he still stands to his belief that Obama is the most dangerous and destructive president America has ever had.
“HE’S IN A POSITION NOW WHERE HE FEELS HE CAN DO WHATEVER HE WANTS”
Hentoff went on to say that Obama has “no right” to do what he’s been doing with executive orders and subverting the legal process, insisting he gets away with it because of the lack of outrage in Congress, an overly complacent media, and the general ignorance of the public.
“He’s in a position now where he feels he can do whatever he wants to do,” explained Hentoff, adding he doesn’t feel the president cares in the slightest about the separation of powers between Congress and the Executive Branch. “He’s the boss and hardly anybody cares enough to stop him,” he said.
“HE DOESN’T SEEM TO GIVE ONE DAMN ABOUT THE SEPARATION OF POWERS”
These are the reasons Hentoff thinks that Obama should be impeached, he doesn’t feel a president should have such unrestricted power and be able to ignore laws that he merely finds inconvenient.
Hentoff also said that “This is the worst state, I think, that our country has ever been in,” adding that “Never before in our history has a president done these things.”
Well we all agree with you, Mr. Hentoff, never before have any of us seen a president that does as he pleases without fear of repercussion. But then again, none of us have ever seen a president so willing to lie to the American public and do whatever is necessary in order to cover up mistakes.
