Ann Coulter on Melissa Harris-Perry: She’s a ‘Token African American’ on MSNBC
January 8, 2014 11:30am PST
Last week we reported on the controversial ridicule that MSNBC host Melissa Harris-Perry perpetrated against Mitt Romney’s adopted African American grandson. This week, conservative firebrand Ann Coulter slammed Harris-Perry as MSNBC’s “token African American” on-air host.
As we reported here, on her Sunday, December 29 broadcast, MSNBC’s Melissa Harris-Perry and her panel made fun of the black infant adopted by the Romney’s son, Ben, and his wife, Andelynne.
The next day Harris-Perry shot off a self-serving “apology” on Twitter, but as the week progressed, she came under increasing criticism and eventually went on the air with a tear-filled apology.
Last Sunday, Mitt Romney responded to the whole situation saying that he accepted the MSNBCer’s apology but noted that politics is bad enough without attacking the children of politicians.
“I recognize that people make mistakes. And the folks at MSNBC made a big mistake. They’ve apologized for it. And that’s all you can ask for,” Romney said on Fox News Sunday on January 5.
“People like me are fair targets. If you get in the political game, you can expect incoming,” Romney said. “But children, that’s beyond the line. And I think they understand that. I think it’s a heartfelt apology. And for that reason, we hold no ill will whatsoever.”
Many want to follow Romney’s lead and just accept Harris-Perry’s apology as heartfelt, but it doesn’t really matter if she is sorry or not. That she felt it was so hilarious to attack a baby in the first place is enough to discount her belated apology and hold her and her network in contempt.
That’s apparently where Ann Coulter stands, anyway.

During an appearance on January 6 on the Sean Hannity Fox show, Coulter offered Harris-Perry no quarter.
Coulter claimed that Harris-Perry was a “token black” at MSNBC. Host Hannity, though, pointed out that there are a few African American hosts at MSNBC. Al Sharpton and Toure Neblett being two others.
Coulter also said that it was likely that the only reason Harris-Perry apologized is because her bosses forced her to do so.
What do you think of this whole thing? Should we accept Harris-Perry’s apology? Tell us below.
