An unarmed mall security guard followed a pair of shoplifters out of an Arizona shopping mall only to have the thieves pull a gun on him. But an armed bystander jumped in and fired shots at the crooks who quickly fled without firing a shot in return.
The incident happened on January 6 outside the Sears outlet of a shopping mall in Glendale, Arizona.
The mall cop followed a pair of shoplifters outside the store and when he attempted to detain them for police, the female of the duo pulled a gun on him.
Arrested Michael Hough, 35, and his wife, Shaasahna Hough, 33
Unbeknownst to the crooks, a 61-year-old bystander was sitting in his car in the parking lot waiting for his wife to emerge from the store. He was armed and jumped out of his car firing at the gun-wielding crooks.
“Fearing for the safety of his wife and the loss prevention officer, the male fired his handgun an unknown number of times toward the armed suspect. There are witnesses who indicate that either one or more of the shoplifting suspects may have been hit by the gunfire. Both of the shoplifting suspects then got onto a black motorcycle and fled the area,” Glendale Police Sgt. Jay O’Neill told the media.
It wasn’t long before the alleged shoplifters were arrested by police and charged with armed robbery.
According to KSAZ, Fox 10 TV, the couple arrested were Michael Hough, 35, and his wife, Shaasahna Hough, 33.
The pair were trying to steal a drill and were unharmed in the shootout.
Police reported that the couple arrested were nailed as a result of surveillance video. They are facing charges of armed robbery, aggravated robbery and aggravated assault.
