Another teacher is scheduled to appear in court after being caught going on a date with a 16 year old student. It turns out, the teacher didn’t even try to hide it as he walked arm and arm with the girl and even bought her presents.
Paul Edward Tate, 36, has been charged with having an improper relationship with a student and indecency with a child over a relationship. According to witnesses however, he didn’t seem to think anything wrong of the relationship showing no desire to conceal it.
According to reports, the two were seen around the Pasadena area at various locations acting as if they were in a relationship. Witnesses even told police that they saw the two walking arm in arm, and even watched him buy presents for the student.
In October, the assistant principal had warned Tate to stay away from the student after seeing them together at a local McDonalds. Even after the warning, the same assistant principal later saw Tate buying a $200 Pandora bracelet for her claiming it was a gift for his mother.
A little while later, a Pasadena Independent School District Police Department officer noticed the girl wearing a bracelet similar to its description.
PISD then went and acquired phone records of the two where even more startling information was discovered. The texts revealed that the two had actually entered into a sexual relationship. There were even pictures the student sent to Tate of herself in lingerie.
Renea Ivy, Associate Superintendent with the Pasadena school district did release a statement acknowledging the alleged relationship between the two. She started out by reminding parents that the incidents did not happen on school grounds and that their first and primary concerns are always for the students.
She said, “Our primary concern is always the welfare of our students. Therefore, the district removed the teacher from the educational environment.” She also noted that Tate was placed on administrative leave just before winter break on Dec. 17.
When parents wondered why the man had not been terminated, she responded, “Any time an educator is accused of an improper relationship, it’s important to make sure that the situation is reviewed thoroughly.”
Tate has not been arrested but is scheduled to be in court on Monday.
