A 31 year old high school English teacher has been arrested after a boy’s parents had found sexually explicit conversations between the teacher and their son on his computer. Lauren Harrington-Cooper, was a married, 9th grade English teacher at the Wyoming Valley West High School where she has confessed to having a sexual relationship with a senior student.
The parents of the boy had seen a sexual conversation between the two on his computer and went to the high school to inform the principal. As short while later, Harrington-Cooper was arraigned on a single count of institutional sexual assault.
The teacher had apparently obtained the boy’s phone number from his sister and was then able to talk via text message. She was even reported to have told the boy that he was “hot.”
Starting in mid-December, the two met on several occasions near the boy’s house where they engaged in sexual intercourse. The teacher had also performed oral sex on the boy in his car.
After being arrested, Harrington-Cooper, “admitted having sexual relations with the boy, whom she knew was a high school senior to investigators.”
Harrington-Cooper was released on $25,000 but not without the warning by District Judge Martin Kane, that if she were to miss “her preliminary hearing on December 26, she would be incarcerated.”
The woman has since been hospitalized requiring medical supervision after attempting suicide.
