TIME Magazine Announces Person Of The Year

Characters ranging from Bashar al-Assad to Miley Cyrus to Ted Cruz were in the running to be TIME’s 2013 Person of the Year. Past winners have included Mark Zuckerberg, Vladimir Putin, and “You” (in 2006 to acknowledge the power of the internet). See the full shortlist here.

Today TIME announced who the winner was: Pope Francis.


This is the third time that TIME has named a pope person of the year.
