Police dashboard cameras in Florida caught dramatic video of a drunk driver breaking down and sobbing for having run an entire family down as they tried to cross the street.
Cassandra Grammel, 24, was arrested by police after committing a hit-and-run crime running down the entire Heneghan family as they tried to cross a street in Delray Beach, Florida.
Grammel is seen on the video barely able to stand at times and sobbing that she is sorry for what she did.
Police administered several breath tests and found that her blood alcohol content was a whopping .263 and .265, according to reports. Florida’s legal limit is .08.
Police report that Grammel admitted that she ran the family down but didn’t stop to see if she had killed anyone.
Grammel was found sitting in her car sobbing over a mile away from where she ran down the Heneghan family. Her car had a smashed windshield.
During the field sobriety tests, Grammel “almost fell over at times’ and ‘often looked at me with a blank stare while I was speaking with her,” police said.
Fortunately, none of the Heneghan family were killed but there were injuries. Daniel Heneghan suffered a broken leg which needed surgery, His wife, Kelly, had a concussion and other scrapes and bruises. Neither of their little children were hurt as both were in strollers that, while they were smashed into the weeds, were otherwise left secure and uninjured.
The drunken Grammel was charged with drunk driving, committing an accident that caused serious injury, and hit and run.
Records show she spent a month in jail before being released on $10,000 bail.
