As more and more comes out about Paul Walker after his sudden death, the one thing that is clear is that he thought of others in time of need. Just before falling victim to a fatal car crash, Walker was attending a charity event for the tsunami recovery in the Philippines. So it should be no surprise that we are hearing that the movie star purchased an engagement ring for a couple that they decided, they couldn’t afford.
The secret was kept for nearly ten years, but after recent events, one of the store’s employees decided she just had to let everyone know.
While the couple, Kyle and Kristen Upham, was in the store, Paul Walker had come in to do some of his own shopping when he bumped into the couple. The men struck up a conversation eventually sharing their names and occupations. It was when Kyle Upham had revealed that he had just returned from a tour in Iraq that the atmosphere in the room began to change.
Kristen describes that, “When he found out Kyle just came back from Iraq – I remember seeing the look in his face. He kind of transformed.” Sadly the two had decided that the $9000 engagement ring was a little out of their price range, and left the store.
It was a few days later when out of the blue the couple received a phone call telling them to come and pick up their ring. Shocked at the generosity, they asked who paid for the ring, but the employee would not tell them as per the request of Walker.
The two always had their suspicions that it was Walker, but were never able to prove it—until now.
The store associate, Irene King, “felt the world should know the actor’s true character.” In a similar opinion, Kristen adds that, “His real life speaks volumes of his character. He really did put his money where his mouth is and did good for this world.”
It is this kind of personality that we could wish that not only all celebrities possessed, but all of mankind.
Vin Diesel, Walker’s co-star, showed up to the area where Walker had died, and family, friends and fans had come together to mourn in order to share a special message. Over a police loud speaker he said:
“If my brother were here right now and saw all the love that you’re bringing here. If he could see for himself that all of you have showed up to show my brother love at this hard time. That his family gets to see all of you show the love that you’ve shown Paul. It’s going to stay with me forever.
‘I just wanted to say thank you. Thank you for coming down here and showing that angel up in heaven how much you appreciate him. It’s going to stay with me forever.”
It’s nice to hear stories that show the good in humanity when the bad seems to surround us, isn’t it?
