Austin Dawkins, 37, a Georgia resident is a top contender for the 2013 “Too Dumb To Live” Award. Unfortunately, he took his idiocy and, rather than injuring himself, almost burned his wife to death by playing with a lighter while pumping gas. Faced with irrefutable video evidence, Dawkins is being charged with criminal negligence.

Dawkins and his wife, Jessica, 30, were pumping gas at a Clarkesville, Georgia, gas station on October 16. The video footage shows the two standing next to their pick-up truck, talking to each other, with the gas pump in the truck’s gas tank, fueling it. Dawkins can be seen with something in his left hand, which he brings closer and closer to the uncapped fuel tank.

What Dawkins had in his hand was a cigarette lighter and what he was doing was flicking it repeatedly, lighting the flame over and over. To no one’s surprise but, perhaps, Dawkins’ own, the fuel vapor eventually made contact with the flame, and there was a fiery explosion.

The moment the explosion occurs, Jessica runs frantically from the truck, as her clothes go up in flames. By the time the fire was doused, she had suffered second- and third-degree burns on her legs, arms, back, and head. Dawkins himself injured his hand.

There is no indication that Dawkins and his wife had a troubled marriage – unless you count being married to the world’s dumbest man as a sign of trouble. If convicted, Dawkins faces up to a year in prison and a $1,000 fine.
