The GOP establishment has been trying to stop Republican frontrunner Donald Trump for months now. However, the Republican establishment was given a major dose of reality this week when they learned that Trump has already won over two million votes more in the primaries that have taken place than GOP golden boy Mitt Romney did in these states in 2012.

According to Breitbart, Trump’s popular vote significantly exceeds Romney’s at this time in the 2012 election. Senator Ted Cruz, who is currently in second place, falls only 300,000 votes short of Romney’s totals in the 2012 cycle.

In the states that have held primaries, caucuses, or conventions, Trump has already received 8,776,586 votes. In these same states in 2012, Romney only received 6,654,029 votes, which is a staggering 2,122,557 votes less than Trump. This means Trump got a whopping 31.79% increase over Romney’s totals.

Trump outperformed Romney in each of the following states: Alabama, Alaska,Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nevada, New Hampshire, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and Wisconsin.

A spokesman for Romney refused to comment on this, but Trump’s campaign manager Corey Lewandowski told reporters that the fact that the business mogul is doing so much better than the 2012 GOP nominee is a sign he should make it to the general election.

“If Ted Cruz were to be nominated, there is no state that Mitt Romney lost last cycle that Ted Cruz can win. That’s not the case with Donald Trump,” Lewandowski said. “We have the ability to expand the map.”

These statistics prove once and for all that it’s time for the GOP establishment to stop trying to destroy Trump, and instead try to help him. What do you think about this? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section.
