The GOP elite is desperate to take the presidential nomination away from frontrunner Donald Trump. Now, it looks like they’ve found someone who they think may be able to beat him.

According to The Political Insider, retired four-star General James Mattis made it clear in a recent interview that he is interested in joining the presidential race, possibly as a third party candidate. Conservative elites such as Bill Kristol of the Weekly Standard have already floated Mattis as a possible alternative to Trump for members of the establishment.

Many members of the armed forces are also encouraging him to run.

”I’ve lived a very colorful life and I’ve said some things,” Mattis recently said in a speech. “But not once have I taken them back, and I’ve never apologized for them — and I won’t. I like the enemy knowing there are a few guys like me around.”

Known for his blunt nature, the GOP establishment believes Mattis is the perfect man to take votes from Trump. In fact, some of his most famous quotes sound extremely Trump-like:

“The first time you blow someone away is not an insignificant event. That said, there are some a**holes in the world that just need to be shot.”

“I come in peace. I didn’t bring artillery. But I’m pleading with you, with tears in my eyes: If you f*** with me, I’ll kill you all.”

“Be polite, be professional, but have a plan to kill everybody you meet.”

Mattis is an American hero who ran the First Marine Division into the Euphrates River Valley at the beginning of the Iraq War. While we could not be more grateful to him for his service, him entering the race would undoubtedly take votes away from the Republican nominee, and would likely win Hillary Clinton the election.
