Deputy Kenneth Moon is a well-liked prison guard at a Florida county jail, so he was stunned when a thug inmate randomly attacked him out of nowhere.

According to Conservative Tribune, 24 year-old inmate Douglas Burden attacked the 64 year-old guard because he thought he was an easy target, but he quickly found out how wrong he was.

Burden, who was in jail on multiple drug charges, saw Moon sitting in his chair and put him in a chokehold. Suddenly, other inmates rushed to help, but they weren’t trying to aid Burden. Instead, they were trying to defend Moon from the stunned thug.

Watch as the inmates take Burden down and restrain him until backup arrives. Col. James Previtera, the commander of the Hillsborough County Department of Detention Services, later told the press that he believes the inmates “saved the deputy’s life.”

“The response of the inmates in this case, I think, speaks volumes as to the fact that we treat these men and women … in our facilities with a lot of respect,” Previtera added.

Jerry Dieguez Jr., who had previously completed Marine Corps training and was reportedly doing time for a home invasion robbery, was one of the inmates who stepped up to rescue Moon.

“I just thank God I had the chance to do what was honorable and righteous,” said Dieguez, who once dreamed of being a cop.

Inmate Terrell Carswell added that Moon had “turned a whole different color from the neck up. I was thinking about this is somebody’s father and somebody’s son and how nobody deserves to die like that.”

“He treats us like a child or a son, and he’s like a doctor to us,” Carswell concluded. “He always tries to make sure you get your medicine.”
