Remember when President Obama claimed his administration would be the “most transparent” in history? All the “fake” scandals that have plagued his Administration may be coming “home to roost”, as it were.

This video is a reminder of the backhanded manner in which an arrogant Lois Lerner “pleads the 5th” while also offering an opening statement, which effectively negates “the 5th”. This issue has been out of the limelight recently, so a brief recant is in order.

  • TEA Party and other Conservative groups claim they are targeted by the IRS to have their not for profit applications delayed or denied.
  • Evidence of said targeting emerges
  • Congress investigates
  • The Administration denies
  • Lois Lerner refuses to cooperate
  • The 2012 election occurs
  • Lois Lerner agrees to cooperate, but pleads 5th
  • Lois Lerner permanently “loses” many of the e-mails requested by Congress

As of now, up to 30,000 missing emails have now been recovered. It would appear “unrecoverable” was wishful thinking on the part of Ms. Lerner and the Obama administration.

The U.S. Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA) announced Friday, while the whole country was up in arms over immigration, that disaster recovery back ups had been located and contained the “missing” e-mails.

“They just said it took them several weeks and some forensic effort to get these emails off these tapes,” a congressional aide told the Washington Examiner. Reportedly, IRS officials are now prepared to “fully cooperate” with the investigation. Now that the midterms are over?

Oversight committees in both Houses of Congress are seeking to prove that Lerner was either working at the behest of the Obama campaign or with the Administration directly. Other evidence seems to indicate this is a possibility. By denying “tax exempt” status to Conservative groups, it was more difficult for them to raise money for Romney or to create anti-Obama ads. The limbo of some groups exceeded a year. There is also evidence that groups with Liberal leanings experienced no such delays and demands for excessive documentation.

From 2009 to 2011 Lerner  was in charge of the exempt-organizations division of the IRS. The recently “found” e-mails are from this critical time period. Numerous excuses about the disaster recovery possibilities with the emails in question have been offered to delay Congressional investigation. This seems to be a tactic with which Administration Officials are quite comfortable and familiar.

In an attempt to gather e-mails by other means, the Oversight Committee requested e-mails from other IRS employees. Those, too, were “lost” in computer crashes, etc. With the apparent inadequacy of their equipment and their propensity for losing things, can the IRS be trusted with something as important as the tax records of every U.S. citizen and corporation? And now, they are in charge of your healthcare. Feel secure?

Lerner has refused to cooperate, but has been held “in contempt” of Congress. Since her retirement, however, any ability of Congress to impose related penalties or charges has been hampered.

250 Million e-mails are reportedly on the tapes. It is likely Lerner’s are there, and those of her underlings, but it will take a very long time to comb through them all, eliminate duplicates, and recreate relevant e-mail trails.

Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., gave this statement about the recovered information:

“Though it is unclear whether TIGTA has found all of the missing Lois Lerner e-mails, there may be significant information in this discovery,” Issa told the Examiner. “The Oversight Committee will be looking for information about her mindset and who she was communicating with outside the IRS during a critical period of time when the IRS was targeting conservative groups. This discovery also underscores the lack of cooperation Congress has received from the IRS. The agency first failed to disclose the loss to Congress and then tried to declare Lerner’s e-mails gone and lost forever. Once again it appears the IRS hasn’t been straight with Congress and the American people.”
