Joel Osteen: “Obama is a Good Christian Who is Doing a Good Job”

In an interview with Larry King, mega church pastor Joel Osteen made some jaw-dropping comments about Obama. You may suspect that Osteen had some less than favorable remarks unbecoming of a church leader, but on the contrary, he called Obama “a good Christian, who is doing a good job in a difficult time.” Osteen said:
“I think he’s doing a great job. I’m impressed of his skill, calmness, his just strength under pressure. I mean these are tough times for him, he got a lot put on his plate. But I’ve been impressed.”
Really?! Has this man been living under a rock?! Clearly not, as his face is plastered all over evangelical TV networks. I can say that I do agree with Osteen on one point. I am also impressed by Obama’s calmness. He manages to remain totally calm as the world burns around him. I consider that a bit sociopathic, but I guess in Osteen’s book it’s a good quality.
Osteen’s wife, Victoria, apparently feels the same way and is quite the fan of Michelle Obama. “I’ve been real impressed,” she said. “I’ve been impressed about the First Lady, she stepped up and she’s done a remarkable job, and under the situation, they have done great.”
It sure doesn’t take much to impress these two. I wonder if their heads explode when they watch American Idol.
King pointed out that many Americans are still confused about Obama’s religion. “Does it matter?” he asked Osteen. The preacher responded:
“Well, it matters to me. It matters to me that I know he loves the Lord, and I think it’s important that he has convictions from his faith. So to me, it matters when I’m making my personal decisions.”
I know one pastor who won’t be audited or asked to turn over his sermons!
Mrs. Osteen agreed with her husband, saying, “It does. It matters to me. … I believe he is a Christian.”
