This morning, Melissa Rivers released a statement saying that her 81-year-old mother was still on life support, despite previous claims by others close to the legendary comedian that she was making a recovery. Melissa Rivers remarked:

“On behalf of my mother and our family, we are extremely grateful for all the love and support we’ve received. At this time she does remain on life support. I know my mother would be overwhelmed by the continued outpouring of kindness and I want to thank everyone for keeping us in their prayers.”

This public statement seems contradictory to claims from another source close to the star, who said, “It’s a slow process, but she’s on the road to recovery. She’s getting better. Don’t believe all this ridiculous speculation.”

The same source commented on the commendable way that Melissa Rivers has handled her mother’s sudden brush with death, saying, “She is a rock. She is calmer than I’ve ever seen her. All these reports about doomsday are not true. She is her mother’s daughter and she’s tough as nails. She’s the person keeping everyone together.”

Perhaps Melissa Rivers has been holding up so well in an effort to keep some sort of normalcy for her 13-year-old son, Cooper. He and his grandmother were extremely close and this ordeal has undoubtedly been incredibly hard on the teenager.

A close friend and collaborator for 40 years, Jay Redack, shared dinner with Rivers the night before the fateful throat surgery which caused her to have a stroke. Redack reported, “She said her throat was bothering her for a long time. Her voice was getting more raspy, if that was possible. She said she was just going in for a little procedure in the morning, that was it.”

As the stories continue to swirl surrounding Rivers’ recovery, doctors are still moving forward with the difficult task of waking her from a medically induced coma. As more information becomes available, we here at Mr. Conservative will be the first to let you know!
