As illegal immigrants continue to pour across the border, filling buses with disease-ridden women and children, Obama has taken no action to alleviate the crisis. His consistent non-action is only serving to make matters worse, as these aliens believe that there is absolutely no consequence for invading our country. While Obama clearly has no respect for our borders, there are quite a few patriots in office who do. One of those good Americans is Congressman Steve King. He’s drafted a House bill, H. Res. 675, which would reimburse border states who deploy the National Guard to stave off illegals. The Iowa Republican has already garnered over two dozen co-sponsors for the bill.

Obama has asked for $3.7 billion to “fix” immigration, though only a measly two percent of that would go to actually securing the border. Republicans answered his request for the funds with a resounding “NO”. King had some very harsh words for the inept president when he spoke to CNS News:

“There is nothing in President Obama’s $3.7 billion request that secures our border. Even though this President has the power to close the border, I know that he never will. In fact, he refuses to do so.

“The American people must understand that this surge in illegals coming across our border is a presidential-caused crisis. This President’s lawless actions such as DACA have caused this nightmare. These actions clearly demonstrate that he is not bound by the Constitution and will not take seriously his obligation to defend our sovereign borders.

“This crisis is devastating our communities and putting the burden on American taxpayers. Right now there is an incentive for illegals to continue to pour across our border, and the only way to discourage them is to seal our border and send them back. Therefore we call upon the southern border Governors to call up their National Guard units to secure the border. This resolution also commits the United States House to funding the states for the cost of securing our border. These are the only supplemental appropriations the House should be considering.”

Fortunately, the governors of Texas and Arizona are Republicans who are likely to jump on board with this plan by calling on the National Guard in their respective states. Governor Rick Perry from Texas has already expressed interest in this idea. He also asked Obama to reimburse his state for the expense that illegal immigrants have caused and this legislation looks as though it might make that happen. It’s not a hair-brained idea; border security is a responsibility of the federal government. The following Representatives were the original co-sponsors of the bill:

Michele Bachmann (MN-06)

Michael Burgess (TX-26)

Rob Bishop (UT-01)

Jeff Duncan (SC-03)

Jimmy Duncan (TN-02)

John Fleming (LA-04)

Trent Franks (AZ 08)

Bob Gibbs (OH-07)

Phil Gingery (GA-11)

Louie Gohmert (TX-01)

Walter Jones (NC-03)

Doug LaMalfa (CA-01)

Doug Lamborn (CO-05)

Kenny Marchant (TX-24)

Thomas Massie (KY-04)

Tom McClintock (CA-04)

Mark Meadows (NC-11)

Mike Palazzo (MS-04)

Bill Posey (FL-08)

Tom Rice (SC-07)

Dana Rohrabacher (CA-48)

Lamar Smith (TX-21)

Steve Stockman (TX-36)

Randy Weber (TX-14)

Joe Wilson (SC-02)

Ted Yoho (FL-03)

One of the bill’s co-sponsors, Rep. Walter Jones (R-NC), referenced the Constitutional authority of Governors to access their National Guard in these matters:

“In order to resolve the crisis on our southern border, we need to strictly enforce our immigration laws – something the Obama administration has failed to do. Securing our borders and deporting individuals who have arrived illegally sends a clear message that such behavior will not be rewarded with citizenship in the future, and the National Guard is critical to this effort.”

Contrary to popular belief, it would not be nearly impossible to fix this immigration problem. With the National Guard at the border, we would be able to send a clear message to illegals. It would not take long for them to realize that we mean business and taking a stroll across the Rio Grande isn’t such a good idea.
