Damned If You Do, Damned If You Don’t: Liberal California Fining Residents Either Way

It seems that the effects of big government are finally rearing its inevitable and ugly head as California residents are feeling the squeeze. As the state of California begins to chew on its own tail, it seems that all California residents are soon to be hit with a $500 fine – no matter what.

There isn’t much you can do in places like California where authorities are urging residents to cut back on water use. Odd tactics have even been implemented such as the urging of neighbors to snitch on fellow neighbors for excessive water use and the glorification of a brown lawn as a “badge of honor,” but that’s not even the worst of it.

Two residents, Laura and Mark, received two separate letters on the same day that were oddly contradictory. The first letter described the aforementioned issue saying if they were found to be using water excessively, guilty parties would be charged a $500 fine.

The second letter however explained, “Despite the water conservation efforts, we wish to remind you that limited watering is still required to keep landscaping looking healthy and green,” also citing a 60-day deadline to get the lawn green again. Also noted was a $500 fine if they were unable to do so.

In a true “damned if you do, damned if you don’t” scenario, California seems hell bent on getting their $500 through whatever means necessary. Now obviously this is a failure to communicate, but Laura shares she’s not alone in her bewilderment.

“My friends in Los Angeles got these letters warning they could be fined if they water, and I got a letter warning that I could be fined for not watering,” she details. “I felt like I was in an alternate universe.”

So what do you think – does this kind of idiocy really shock you? Let us know how you felt about this in the comments below.
