Two Texas cops are taking the internet by storm with their rendition of Katy Perry’s hit song ‘Dark Horse’. The pair lip-synced to the tune while on patrol in their cruiser and it’s pretty hilarious. Perhaps the funniest thing about it is that the big black male cop does Katy Perry’s parts while the blonde white girl cop does the rapping.

Ranell Roy and Ariel Ronell, of the Rosenberg Police Department, uploaded their video to the internet last week and since then it has gotten over 500,000 views on YouTube.

After reports of police brutality consuming the news as of late, the officers shot the video to let the public know that they’re not the enemy. Officer Ronell stated:

“We actually want to be able to show people that we’re just people, just like everybody else.”

Still, the video has received some criticism from citizens who say that Ronell and Roy should have been focusing on their jobs. Officer Roy commented:

“The message is that we’re not the enemy, we’re the friends of the community.”

The police department has not apologized for the video, which was shot while the officers were at the park, not driving city streets. They fully supported the officers’ efforts, saying:

“This is work. … Connecting WITH your community and cultivating lasting cooperation is what’s in and it’s here to stay. Time to think outside the box.”

They were definitely thinking outside the box – you have to give them that!

This isn’t the first report of law enforcement doing something unconventional in an effort to connect with the community. Just awhile back, another officer stopped his patrol car and took a few moments to throw a football around with a lonely youth who was playing all by himself.

It’s these small acts that eventually add up to something bigger. Who knows, that little boy may grow up to pursue a career in law enforcement now as opposed to making his living selling drugs. You never know!

What do you think? Should these officers have been paying more attention to work? Or is it ok to let your hair down once in awhile? Let us know what you think in the comments section!
