Idaho GOP Convention Erupts Into Floor Fight

Staunch conservatives came head to head with more lackadaisical Republicans at the Idaho GOP convention this past week. Delegates from across the state met to elect party delegates, but ultimately a floor fight ensued, leaving much to be accomplished.

In the past, Idaho Republican delegates have been put in place informally, without adhering strictly to the bylaws of the party. But grassroots Tea Party activists weren’t going to put up with anymore corruption. They attempted to put a stop to the Republicans bucking the system by recommending that approximately 20% of the conventions’s delegates be stripped of their voting privileges. Of course, those delegates did not take that recommendation lightly.

In objection, the establishment delegates raised challenges until they essentially ran the clock out on the convention. This is not unheard of in the political arena, however it left a lot up in the air as to whether or not current officers will remain in their positions.

Jason Robinson, State Secretary of the Republican Liberty Caucus of Idaho, told BenSwann.com:

“This convention demonstrated that the grassroots in the Idaho Republican Party are fed up with corruption, and they wanted to send a message to every county to follow the rules when electing delegates.”
