A brand new version of The Star-Spangled Banner is being hailed as “hauntingly beautiful”.

Singer Chase Holfelder decided to publish his rendition of the song with an interesting twist – he sings it entirely in a minor key.

If you’re familiar with any extent of music theory, then you know that there is a huge difference between pieces of music composed in a major key versus those in a minor key. Music written in a minor key takes on a more sinister sound, while songs in a major key are more uplifting.

It might sound like an odd proposition to sing The Star-Spangled Banner this way, but you will be pleasantly surprised after taking a listen.

Praise for Chase’s voice has been pouring in:

“Wow. Just wow.”

“That gave me chills. Wow. Amazing.”

“This is insane man. Absolutely stellar singing.”

The Star-Spangle Banner is a challenging song for any musical artist to pull off and to do it in a minor key is extraordinarily impressive – especially since Chase does it a cappella and harmonizes with himself.

Since it was released a week ago, the song has already received over 350,000 hits on YouTube. You can also download it on iTunes.
