The IRS investigation is just about to heat up as the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee has recently released its findings.  The committee, albeit slowly, found that the IRS was guilty of using its power to unfairly target Tea Party groups, and are now seeking to file criminal charges against those responsible.

Currently down range is former IRS official Lois Lerner for her blatant lies, unwillingness to cooperate with Congress, and her constant efforts to derail the investigation. After having their “official” conclusion, the House Ways and Means Committee is set to compose a letter to the DOJ in which they will state why Lerner should be slapped with federal charges.

As they suggest the DOJ charge her with, “misleading the Congress,” the Oversight Committee are currently strongly considering charging her with contempt as well.  Speaking with Megyn Kelly on The Kelly File, House Speaker John Boehner exclaimed, “I want to know who’s going to jail.”

Expressing his take on the issue, he went on to say, “There are specific laws that force the IRS to comply with the law. Somebody at the IRS violated the law.”  According to Fox News, the House Ways and Means Committee will prove how Lerner, “violated the constitutional rights of citizens, gave misleading information to investigators and inappropriately released private taxpayer information,” in its letter to the DOJ.

Fox News also noted the unfortunate reality in it all saying, “criminal referrals from Congress to the Justice Department are rare — and the Justice Department is under no obligation to pursue such a case.”

Despite this however, Boehner remains unwavering in his faith that Congress will hold Lerner to her legal obligations.  “If she’s not going to tell us the truth, we are going to hold her in contempt. The House will vote. The House will hold her in contempt.”

What do you think – does Lerner deserve jail time?  Will she ever see life from the inside of a cage? Let us know in a comment below.
