Kevin Spacey isn’t known for his highly publicized life and outward opinions, but recently he felt compelled to share a little more than a mild thought.  Speaking out via his blog, the actor supported those protesting in Venezuela sharing that they have the same God given rights that we Americans have.

Although Spacey did meet former Venezuelan leader Hugo Chavez back in 2007, it appears he may not have totally agreed with the man.  This was most notably made the case after recently chastising the Venezuelan government oppression established by Chavez all those years ago.  As citizens have taken to protesting the same, Spacey wrote a blog in support of those fighting for more freedom.

Spacey noted, what should have been, the simplicity in it all by saying, “These students were standing for basic human freedoms and engaging in the right to protest, which is a sacred right whether in Boston, Belarus, or Venzuela.”

While expressing those rights however, the IJ Review explains that, “The government of Venezuela has arrested more than 1,400 students and tortured many over protests about food shortages, high inflation, and strict control of the media.”

Expressing the frustration he shares with those several students, he goes on to say, “I support all of the Venezuelans who peacefully and non-violently claim their right to self-determination and protest.”

Spacey expresses that as our forefathers outlined the rights given to man by God himself, we have an obligation to fight for those whose rights are oppressed. In a struggle to allow those rights worldwide, he went on to write, “We who are fortunate enough to live in freedom must stand up to oppression and injustice.”

As we’ve all seen the Hollywood left in mourning of the man responsible for such oppression, it only goes to say that Spacey’s rant delivered an astounding blow.  And although there is no end in sight regarding the uprising in Venezuela, it’s nice to see someone in Hollywood still left with a soul.
