Cracker Barrel Pulls Duck Dynasty Products Off Shelf – Then Changes It’s Mind!

A major sponsor of Duck Dynasty, Cracker Barrel announced through its Facebook page on Friday night that it would be removing selected products from its stores in the aftermath of Phil Robertson’s comments about homosexuality.
Cracker Barrel’s announcement was extremely vague.
Here is the full statement:
Cracker Barrel’s mission is Pleasing People. We operate within the ideals of fairness, mutual respect and equal treatment of all people. These ideals are the core of our corporate culture.
We continue to offer Duck Commander products in our stores.
We removed selected products which we were concerned might offend some of our guets while we evaluate the situation.
We continually evaluate the products we offer and will continue to do so.
Several Facebook users swifty exposed the absurdity of this statement.
Jody Dixon: “After you are done removing the selected products, go ahead and remove a bunch of tables and chairs…… you won’t be needing them anymore.”
Suzanne McNutt Blood: “What products might that be? Why now, if they weren’t offensive before?”
Sandy Herman: “My chuch group had plans to have our luncheon at your establishment next week. Since you had no issue offending our church group, you leave us no altenative but to take our business elsewhere…”
Ben Kahrl: “How bizarre that Cracker Barrel felt a need to respond at all…”
Cracker Barrel took more than 24 hours to provide clarification on whether they are were only pulling Duck Dynasty products that are owned by A&E or planning to pull products related to the show and the Robertson family. They also didn’t respond initially to what products were being pulled temporarily that their guests may deem “offensive.”
With little clarification, and lots of frustration brewing, fans of the show continued to raise hell on Cracker Barrel’s Facebook and Twitter feeds throughout the weekend.
And now, it all appears to have paid off as Cracker Barrel has entirely changed their mind, and vowed to keep the products on the shelves:
Dear Cracker Barrel Customer:
When we made the decision to remove and evaluate certain Duck Dynasty items, we offended many of our loyal customers. Our intent was to avoid offending, but that’s just what we’ve done.
You told us we made a mistake. And, you weren’t shy about it. You wrote, you called and you took to social media to express your thoughts and feelings. You flat out told us we were wrong.
Today, we are putting all our Duck Dynasty products back in our stores.
And, we apologize for offending you.
We respect all individuals right to express their beliefs. We certainly did not mean to have anyone think different.
We sincerely hope you will continue to be part of our Cracker Barrel family.
This may be the first time I have ever seen a major company attribute a major decision exclusively to social media pressure. Maybe this is just the first time, a major company was honest about making a major decision exclusively because of social pressure.
